The hospital's cable package doesn't include Lifetime network or TLC.
I'd like to clean my kitchen during early labor.
Hubby doesn't want to miss the Nascar race/football game.
Having the family dog participate in the birth experience.
The car might break down on the way to the hospital.
My bedroom has an incredible view.
I prefer the sound of squealing children to the sound of screaming women in labor.
Having access to a full size bottle of my favorite hair conditioner.
No registration paperwork.....that's a good enough reason alone!
Eating whatever you like while in labor....and not having to sneak it in.
Anyone can be a part of the birth-you place the limits on visitors.
No hospital bracelets...and no chance of walking out of the hospital with the wrong baby.
No babysitter....no problem since children are allowed and we aren't leaving home.
The chance of having a completely unhindered birth at home is as good as you make it.

Why I had a homebirth:
ReplyDelete1. Because my midwives are amazing!!
2. So my husband could be more involved.
3. We had a hospital birth first, a birth center birth second, so it was a natural progression to homebirth.
4. Also because I didn't want to find a babysitter.
5. Home is cozy.
6. So I could have the birth photographed.
I love your reasons!
DeleteBirth photography is rarely allowed in the hospital-at least not during the actual birth.
I might have added that my own bed is so much more comfortable than a hospital "bed"!
We were all born quite a while ago (my littlest sister is 17!) but my mom had pictures and video of the some of our births. Is this ban on pictures a recent thing?
DeleteDifferent hospitals have different policies on having the actual birth video recorded or photographed...our local hospital forbids any film use while the delivery is taking place :/
DeleteI've not had any kids and though I've long been a proponent of natural birth and midwifery I had thought I would have a birth center birth if I ever have kids. More and more though I find myself falling in love with the idea of a home birth. Warm candles (no open flames in hospitals or even most birth centers), fresh food that I made (or someone who knows and understand my dietary restrictions lovingly made), no tests immediately after birth - just time to bond and start nursing. Your reasons are all great too! I hope and pray that if I am ever blessed to have children I will be able to birth that home too.
ReplyDeleteBirth is more sacred and spiritual at home, I have control over my body and baby, labor progresses easier and faster, I love my midwives, having your bed as a recovery bed is the best, I have access to my own food, no need to load baby into a carseat, sign paper work, or be disturbed by hospital staff afterwards.
